The week in your market, without reading a week of records

Every other screen here answers a question you arrived with. This one answers the question nobody has an hour for on a Monday morning: what actually happened last week in the codes I work in.

money not obligated by 30 September goes back, and nobody gets credit for handing it back

What is in it

Four numbers, and what they are against

A count on its own is not information. Four awards means nothing. Four awards against a weekly average of eleven means the market slowed down, and eleven against an average of four means something moved. Every figure in the report carries the same figure for the thirteen weeks before it.

Then the parts a number cannot carry: who took the work, which of them had never won in that code before, what opened, what closes in the next three weeks, and which contracts come up for recompete within a year.

  • Awarded and obligated, against the weekly average
  • Notices opened, against the weekly average
  • How much of the week was reserved for small business
  • Who took it, resolved so one company under four spellings counts once

the shape of the distribution, not a point on it

The line worth reading first

Somebody won here for the first time

A firm with no past performance in a code has one question about it that matters more than the money: does this market let anybody new in, or is it the same four companies every year.

The report answers it directly. A winner with no earlier award in that code on record is marked as a first-time winner, because a market that admitted somebody new last week is a market worth a first bid, and one that has admitted nobody in a year is a market to enter as a subcontractor instead.

  • First-time winners marked on every report
  • Read against the whole award record, not just the week
  • A quiet week says so in one line rather than padding itself out
  • A report is only written once a week is complete, so it never changes after you read it

by the time the notice appears the requirement is written and the budget exists

It arrives, rather than waiting to be opened

The report is on its own screen and it is also attached to your weekly digest, so the week in your market turns up in the same email as the things you are watching. One email rather than two, and a week where nothing happened in any of your codes is left off it entirely.

Where it is in the app

Your market this week, under Intelligence in the menu, in More of the market. Intelligence is the part of LastAwarded that finds the market, one of the eight parts.
