Research topics open now, and who won the ones before
The Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs pay small businesses to research and develop what agencies need, and a Phase I award is often the way into an agency that would not otherwise know your name. SBIR and STTR keeps SBIR.gov award and topic records: the topics open now, and every award made under the two programs.

What agencies are asking small businesses to research
The SBIR and STTR screen is under Intelligence in the menu, in More of the market. It opens on the topics open now: each with the agency and the part of it asking, the program and the phase, the day it closes, and a link to the topic on SBIR.gov, where you apply.
Search by words, narrow by agency and program, and open a topic for its description. Under it are the awards already made under the same topic, so you can see who has done this work for this customer before.
- The topics closing soonest are easy to put first
- Phase I and Phase II are told apart
- Every topic links to its own page on SBIR.gov

Every award, by agency, phase, year and company
The awards are every SBIR and STTR award SBIR.gov has on record, from the start of the programs: the company, the title of the work, the agency and its branch, the phase, the program, the year and the amount. Narrow by words, agency, phase, program, years, state or a company.
A company that matches one on record by its identifier opens its own page, and that page carries a card of its SBIR and STTR awards: how many, how much, from when to when, and the latest few. Next to its federal contracts, that says whether a competitor or a teammate is doing research for the customer you want.
- A company page card, drawn only when it has awards
- Women-owned, HUBZone and disadvantaged marks as SBIR.gov records them
- No names, phone numbers or email addresses of people are kept
Why it belongs beside the contracts
An SBIR or STTR award is a contract or a grant, and a Phase III award can be made without competition to the company that did the earlier phases. So the research a company did two years ago can be the sole-source production contract it holds next year. Seeing the research awards beside the contract record is how you see that coming, for a competitor or for yourself.
For a small business that has never won a federal contract, a topic that fits the work is also one of the few doors where the agency comes to you with the problem written down.
SBIR and STTR, from SBIR.gov
About 218,000 awards are on file, made from 1983 to 2026. The figure is rounded down.
Where it stops
SBIR and STTR comes with every paid plan. The awards and topics are as SBIR.gov records them, and an award whose company carries no identifier is not tied to a company page. You apply for a topic on SBIR.gov and the agency site it names, not here. The amounts are what SBIR.gov records as awarded, not what was paid.
